šæ Teaching the African Heritage Diet in Toledo, Ohio š„
This past week, I had the privilege of teaching a Culinary Nutrition & African Heritage class at the Wayman Palmer YMCAāa vibrant community space filled with heart, culture, and a real thirst for better health.
Rooted in tradition, flavor, and wellness, this class was more than a cooking demoāit was a celebration of food as medicine, ancestral wisdom, and community healing.
āAs we cooked and connected, one participant asked,
Why arenāt more people like you doing this?ā
That moment stayed with me. It was a powerful reminder that this workāthis sharing of cultural nutrition and culinary skillsāmatters deeply.
š¤ The African Heritage Diet isnāt just about ingredients. Itās about identity, pride, and restoring health through the power of tradition.

Culinary nutrition education meets people where they are, honoring culture while offering practical tools to transform health outcomes.
Food is powerful. And when we teach people how to nourish themselves with intention and cultural relevance, we donāt just change mealsāwe change lives.
Grateful to the Wayman Palmer YMCA of Toledo, OH and everyone who showed up ready to learn, share, and grow. āØ
