This post is a quick reference tool as a reminder to care for yourself in meeting heavy days. The tips below are not researched, but crowd-sourced from colleagues, husband, and friends. I hope one or two helps you!
1. Keep water 💦 near you. I personally like to make a cucumber water pitcher in the morning so I may refill my glasses in between meetings. You can also often hear me note to the meeting leader “grabbing a cup of coffee”. Literal staple!
2. Keep plants 🪴 in your workspace.
3. Try to work near natural light 💡 or add artificial natural light. Last year I moved my desk from the middle of the room to near the windows. This simple relocation made a world of difference.
4. Keep your space Organized 🛋️and Tidy 🧹 .
5. Get dressed. Snappy casual, comfy cozy, whatever your vibe is go for it.
6. Take meeting breaks ✌🏾Check out my post on what back to back meetings do to your brain if you want more info on the “why” of this one.
7. Identify new skills that will help you. Digital notes, analog notes, or even new skills how to run effective meetings. For more information check out my post on reskilling the workforce.
8. Ergonomics matter. For more info on this one check out my post on home environments
9. Know your sparkle ✨ time. Whether you are an early bird or late owl, maximize that time.
10. Optimize Energy peak. Once you know your sparkle time, optimize, don’t overdo it.
BONUS! It’s ok not to be ok… if you are already having a bad day, or have been triggered by something else in your life take a few moments of care for yourself before you attend your next meeting. A quick break, power pose, even deep breathing can help you in those moments.
