⭐️ My 3 Yr Health Journey Anniversary! 7 Lessons 🤓#WaxingPoetic

I was sitting one evening opening the mail and saw this quote written on a letter from my little sister. We started writing to each other on occasion during the pandemic and have continued off and on. When I read it, it summed up my health journey so very well.

Blogging doesn’t just represent 3 years of releasing words on a keyboard. For me it represents 3 years of a commitment to my health!

Thank God I never settled, this view is so much better

While celebrating the holidays, I gave myself alot of reflection time. Pondering where I am, the person I’ve become and how pursuing my best healthy self has influenced all areas of my life. The journey certainly has not been easy, but worth it.

Three years of blogging my health journey—and I’m still in awe of where it’s led.

What started as a personal practice of reflection and accountability has grown into a space of connection, learning, and encouragement. I’m deeply grateful for the community that’s shown up with curiosity, kindness, and shared commitment to living well. Thank you for reading, sharing, and reminding me that our stories matter especially when we tell them honestly.

7 Lessons

  1. 🙋🏾‍♀️ Don’t let someone else set your health goal – so often, we allow others (even professionals) tell us what we should focus on.
    • Ask yourself this question: how do I want to feel?
      • Do I want more energy?
      • Don’t want to model healthy behaviors for my family?
      • Do I want to prevent chronic illness?
    • Let these questions be your guide and ask the Professionals to help you get there. These goals will sustain you when the journey gets tough.
  2. 💪🏾 Be unapologetic in your journey
    • I remember when I chose to change my eating, there were some folks in my life that laughed! They knew I tried many times before and failed miserably. They were comfortable with me staying exactly the way I was. I was not. Now, those same folks come to me for advice!
    • You can make YOUR change YOUR way.
  3. 🍽️ Who you dine with matters…..
    • When you surround yourself with folks that are on the same vibe as you, then energy changes, the conversation changes, and you begin to change.
      • That Friend you know has a commitment to health, ask them to lunch or dinner so they can encourage your journey
      • Talk to the folks that live in your home, be loud about your commitment to health
  4. 🌶️Savor flavor
    • For the love of all that matters folks, healthy food does not have be tasteless! Be willing to take a moment, and savor the flavors of life! Early in my journey, I followed all the recommendations of books, and Dieticians, and folks that gave me great advice, but it was customized to me. When I started to play with spices, and sample foods that gave me life, the game changed. Your worth the time to pause…. and savor what’s best for you!
      • Try new recipes!
      • Commit to cooking your own meals at least xx a week
  5. 👟 Find Your Tribe #zumba!
    • 3 years later, I’m still rolling with the Zumba crew! Zumba is the most consistent form of exercise in my life. Yes, it gives me the cardio I need, but more importantly the Sisterhood of women that I’ve et and formed bonds with is what keeps me coming back over and over. If you can, look for a way to move, and a tribe to move with you!
      • Ask a Friend to walk with you!
      • Ask a Different Friend to talk on the phone while your walking for accountability!
      • Try a new cardio class, and make a friend!
  6. 🫖 Slow Down and Listen to the Whispers
    • Come on now, I know you didn’t think this one wasn’t coming… hahah! The body is whispering to you… are you listening?
      • Our bodies give us signs and symptoms signaling our needs.
      • We just need to take a moment to listen, reflect and take action.
  7. 🍎 Discipline is the highest form of Self Love
    • It’s choosing, again and again, to care for your health even when it would be easier not to. It’s a decision you never regret, but one you must recommit to daily, grounding yourself in accountability and intention.
    • Discipline isn’t about restriction; it’s about devotion to the life you want to live. I chose my word this year as Rooted as a reminder to stay anchored in what matters most my health, my family, and the habits that sustain me over time.

Every post, reflection, and “poetic wax” is a reminder to myself first and foremost to keep choosing this life, this journey, and most of all your health.

Thank you Folks! Let’s Crush our Health Goals in 2026!!
