Presence is a Gift

A fun moment at the Queen Bee Race!

In this age of digital distraction what can be a better gift than someone’s undivided attention?!?!?!?

As we walked in the race last week, I was present enough to see this beautiful group of young girls cheering us on from the sidelines. They were all so adorable and cheering as if they were walking! Their dance team was one of the many fantastic agencies we were walking to fund! I paused in the moment and snapped a pic as I wanted them to know I SEE U!!

Presence Formula

It’s hard to be present without good time management. Time management is one of my highest values, as time is our most precious asset. If you struggle with time management, check out this post I wrote on planners. I truly believe having a planner either elaborate or a simple notebook can be life changing.

Balance = Time management + Intention + Presence

Presence is defined as the state or fact of existing, occurring, or being present in a place or thing. It can also mean a person or thing that exists or is present in a place but is not seen. Has anyone felt not seen lately?Ā

I want you to know I may not know you, but today I see you. You ARE Present.Ā

2 gifts of presence can give yourself:

  1. Build your Fortitude
    1. Fortitude is built before the tough times come.
      1. ā€œIt’s easier for the world to gas light you, when you are living on ā€œeā€ emptyā€ (Song Artist AJ McQueen).
      2. Fortitude is the ability to maintain strength of mind that enables a person to encounter danger or bear pain or adversity with courage and maintain or even build their well-being.
      3. In 2019 researchers found employees who showcase positive psychological fortitude experience higher levels of wellbeing, greater job satisfaction and engagement, and a perceived high level of job performance.
      4. We can not rely on fortitude to increase on its own. We must take action in ways that fill our cups so we can withstand the tough times (Dr.Rheedia Walker).
  2. Check in with yourself using a Fortitude scale from Dr. Rheeda Walker.

3 Ways to empower your presence as a gift:

  1. Activate do not disturb one set hour of every day.
    • Give the presence of your time as a gift to yourself.
      • Mine is 9-10. Sometimes 5-6am, even 8-9 when I need it haha! Ā
  2. Tell your story everywhere you feel safe.
    1. Surviving and thriving is a gift. Your story and presence matters.
      • Every time you tell it, you own the power of it, it doesn’t own you.Ā
  3. Grab a friend and protect your peace
    1. Earlier this week I was at 6 on the fortitude scale.
      • I was so overwhelmed with all my responsibilities, I just didn’t know how I could do it all. But I had planned, shopping day with my BFF!!
        • Just that quickly I went from a 6 to a 9!
    2. We are social creatures, make time and space for connection
    3. Give the gift of your presence to those you love and love you.
      • Not just to the influencers, and digital presence…..Ā

I leave you with this last word.

Sacrificing your body is not Selflessness. There is no honor in not taking care of yourself.Ā

When you don’t care for the gift of your presence, you’re sacrificingĀ  your gifts.
