Why I Chose to Self-Publish 📚 #self-trust

I turned in 48,000 words to my Editor. As I pushed away the chair, I said a silent prayer of gratitude as those words were finally released. Like a building block, that submission added another brick to the pile of “self-trust”.

I set the intention

I made space

I kept a promise to Myself

According to the article Self-trust and How to Build it” in Psychology Today, self-trust is defined as the firm reliance on the integrity of yourself. A few notable characteristics of people with high self-trust:

  • Speak with authority that comes from a deep place within but is not arrogant.
  • Have clarity and confidence in their choices.
  • Are good observers and have cultivated the ability to learn from their experiences, both successes and failures.

Building Self-Trust

Whispers in December of 2022 was a dream. A silent desire to start my own blog I was too scared to share with anyone. When I finally shared the idea with my husband his reaction was the nod I needed to go full throttle.

An early post!

What I know for sure is that there’s something in the words I write that’s just pure enough it keeps folks reading. Writing and talking about healthcare comes easy for me. I can anchor to my experience, education and vision any day. Talking about my personal experiences, both wins and failures; make my knees knock and palms sweaty.

To this day, every time I click “publish” on a new blog post, a whoosh of nervousness still plagues me. It’s lessened over time but nonetheless there.

Delivering My Purest Voice

When it was time to make the choice between self-publishing or choosing a large publishing firm; the choice became simple. In order to achieve the purest sound, and build self-trust I needed to do this on my own. From the Editor, to the cover, the timeline, to where each period is placed I desired to build self-trust in each small or big decision independently.

Of course as an avid reader this is not shade to Publishing companies at all. I love reading new Authors and the platform their backing can give important voices and topics. This was simply my choice with this first book and this exercise.

Setting the Intention

I developed a purpose statement for this project very early on.

To create the journal I desired when I started my wellness journey

That line became my beacon. Each time put the project away, or didn’t give it the attention it deserved, this anchoring line brought me right back to it.

What is the Book About?

So, if you like Whispers blog, the Book 7 Whispers from My Heart to Yours will be a great companion to you. I selected the best blog posts, tweaked them, and added additional “micro-exercises” for real life application.

Each chapter of the book also has a “Let’s Werk” ending segment, to guide you through curious questions for self-knowledge.

The Journal does not require you to follow along chronologically. Instead, you can pick up and enjoy any chapter and come back to it when you have time.

If you choose to purchase a copy, it is my greatest intent for you to mark it up! The tools, and exercises are placed in ways for you to use them directly inside.

The book won’t come with the backing of a large Marketing firm, $$$ payoff, or the bells and fancy whistles a large publishing company can deliver.

It’s simply a Whisper I hope blesses each reader in a unique way.
