“Nothing works until you do”
Dr. Maya Angelou
7 in 10 people were likely to set goals in 2023. However, according to the University of Scranton, 92 percent of people set goals and are not likely to achieve them.
According to Forbes the top goals set are:
- Health goals
- Fitness goals
- Financial goals
- Personal development goals
As you assess your end of year goals consider these questions:
1. How much time each week do you dedicate to your own goals?
2. Are your 2023 personal intentions on track?
3. Are you avoiding setting personal goals because you no longer believe you can reach them?
All of these feelings are quite normal and in fact of the majority.
I decided to look at my own data in search of question number one. I’ve written about my health goals this year and all of the ways I’ve attempted to meet them. One statistic I reviewed was Vitality App milestones. Reaching my 370th workout milestone was significant to me. Some walks are short, Zumba classes long, morning weight workouts tiring. But I knew the goal was to move more in order to improve wellness. I could not have obtained the outcome with out a focused strategy.

I thought about the tools did I use to reach these goals. It came down to tracking, prioritizing, and tying my purpose to the goal.
According to Gallop in 2023
- 48% of goal-setters say they will write their goals down
- 49% say they will create an action plan that lists the specific steps needed to reach each goal
- 95% say they will continue focusing on their goals throughout the year
So, I’m kind of over the SMART goal method for my personal life. I began to research models that more closely aligned with what brought me success this year. That’s when I read about PACT.
PACT is a goal setting technique and stands for Purposeful, Actionable, Continuous, and Trackable. Compared to other methods that focus on outcome, PACT goals focus on output. By focusing on output, some people have found that PACT goals allow them to track progress towards achieving a goal and creating new habits.
I found this method of goal setting most relatable for me, as I’ve learned this year if I can connect my goal to a deeper meaning I am much more likely to be consistent. I talk more about this process in my previous blog post Health Goal Achievement.

Next year I will be offering a series of workshops giving back my learnings over the past couple years. It’s been an incredible journey and I hope to continue sharing hard fought lessons.
