🧺 Farmers Market Haul: Findley Market #nationalfarmersmarketweek👩🏽‍🌾

Findlay Markey Cincinnati, OH

👋🏾 Hello Friends! I promised you a Farmers Market haul and wallah! Here we are! 💫

So, after our last potluck together, my friends and I decided to make the historic Findlay Market our next adventure! I grabbed my Famers Market bag and off I went to one of the oldest markets in the Midwest.

P. S… yes, they raz’d ne for being extra with my razzle, dazzle farmers market bag 😆. You may remember it from my July Announcement post. I jazzed it up a bit! Because…. Well you know I’m a bit of a diva 👑😆.

Had so much fun ironing on my patches!

It’s so important for me in this season of life to have folks I can lean into my wellness journey with. No matter how long you are on the journey, it’s still gets hard to stay on track. I am grateful to these ladies! 🙏🏾

So let’s chat!

National Farmers Market Week

National Farmers Market Week is a weeklong celebration of the hard work and dedication of our local farmers. Enter ➡️ Findlay Market!

Findlay Market is Ohio’s oldest continuously operated public market and one of Cincinnati’s most cherished institutions, welcoming more than one million visitors each year.  Located just blocks from downtown in Over-the-Rhine, a dense historic neighborhood rich in 19th century architecture, Findlay Market remains the bustling center of farm fresh, locally sourced, artisanal and specialty foods.

At the Market, there is an outdoor portion and indoor stalls. We made our way through the outdoor stalls first, stopping for delicious nosh such as an empanda from Arepa, and gelato!

Below is a list of goodies I want to highlight. Some things were hit or miss, which I’ll spare you the misses. That’s part of the fun of a farmers market, meeting new favs, as well as trying new things and let me say… for REASONABLE prices.

My haul! Great bag to carry it all

🥖 Baked Goods

What’s Sunday dinner without a few bread rolls! Thankfully this bakery makes some items with whole wheat bread. These honey wheat rolls looked delicious!

🥔 Produce

A Purple Potato? I had never seen one so I scooped it up to see what we’re working with… upon a bit of research I learned:

Purple potatoes stand out not just for their vibrant color, but also for their health benefits and rich, earthy flavor. Their deep hue comes from anthocyanins—powerful antioxidants linked to reduced inflammation and improved heart and brain health. Compared to white potatoes, they offer a slightly nuttier taste, a firmer texture (great for roasting or salads), and a similar nutrient profile with added antioxidant power. They also have a slightly lower glycemic index, making them a colorful and smart addition to your plate. I think I’m going to toss this in with some zucchini and make a delicious soup!

🫚 Spices and Tea

513 Scrambled egg seasoning: I love making a warm egg bake in the morning for breakfast. So easy, simply mix up your fixings, toss in some veggies and sausage then let it cook! By the time I’m ready for work it’s ready for me! With this new seasoning pack in hand I’ll be able to take it up a notch!

*** I also added this seasoning to my cheesy millet grits!! Oh my… absolutely divine. If you have not tried swapping the whole grain millet for typical white grits… you’ve got to try it. I’m sure they will make their way into this blog at some point. I’m working on a new African Heritage Diet class dedicated all to Whole grains!

🥚 513 Scrambled Eggs! 🔥

Chamomile Egyptian Herbal Tea

Egyptian chamomile

This popular flower herbal tea has a calming aroma with a pleasant earthy floral flavor and a delightful golden brew. I grabbed an ounce of this delicious blend to help with the evening routine… a nice cuppa tea and journal time.

I also grabbed some hibiscus petals, rose petals, and lemon peels from Dean’s Mediterranean store. Such a gem of a store with a plethora of finds and great, friendly service!

🌕 Egyptian Spice Rub and Mustard Powder

Egyptian spice, also known as dukkah, is a flavorful blend of nuts, seeds, and spices, with the most common ingredients being sesame seeds, coriander, cumin, hazelnuts, and salt. I’m a big fan of cumin for soups, so my plan is to swap out the usual cumin dabble for this blend when making soup! We shall see how this goes 😆.

The mustard powder is for a different use. I like to make homemade ramen with whole wheat ramen noodles. I make them in mason jars and store in the fridge for quick lunches. They can even be a snack! I add mustard powder and seaweed strips to the broth. So, so, good!!

Ramen ready to go!

🫖 Fun Finds

Stainless Steel Gold Tea Egg $12.00

🌹 Loose Tea Holder!

To make a nice mixture of tea, I grabbed this little guy. I made a mixture of dried rose, chamomile, and lemon peel the other night. This worked very well. Sometimes after a hard day, a cuppa tea soothes the soul.

🦋 Butterfly Garden Pop Up!

We pit stopped for minute to see this beautiful pop up butterfly garden. It’s true, you never know what you’ll see at a Farmers Market!

Supporting farmers markets is a powerful way to invest in your local community, health, and environment all at once. When you shop at a farmers market, you’re getting fresh, seasonal food often harvested just hours before, which means better flavor and more nutrients. You’re also helping small-scale farmers and food producers earn a fair wage and sustain their livelihoods. Plus, buying local reduces the environmental impact of long-distance transportation and packaging.

Essentially, this visit and post hit all the feels for me. I’m enjoying my goodies, and the satisfaction of feeding my body well. If you have a farmers market near you, grab a friend and pop in!
